Chris Larson ... "I refer to this as T. Samantha’s sister, as I think it is out of the same seedling batch as Deroose used to get Samantha. I bought this from Pam in 1999 in Cairns. One of the photos (2nd) has a Peruvian plant in front of it, the foliage isn’t T. Samantha." Pamela Koide-Hyatt talk at 2026 Tillandsia Day
Pam discussed the recent revision of the T. mooreana complex. (It contains such spectacular species as T. inflata, pamelae, and mooreana). She outlined the often-tangled history of T. inflata/mooreana identification, and the eventual (2025) conclusion that T. kalmbacheri should be synonymised with T. mooreana.
Two new species were then separated (based on petal colour) from T. mooreana, namely, T. anatuitoensis and givnishiana.
This taxonomic revision has changed the parentage of the popular hybrid, T. 'Samantha'. It is now: T. anatuitoensis x mooreana.
